Julian 'Jumpin' Perez - Live on B96 Chicago (1993)
Julian has been a Mixmaster on Chicago Radio for over 20 years, the longest of any DJ in the world. At the age of 14, Julian began his career promoting and spinning records at his own events while attending high school. He quickly became a crowd favorite and landed a job at the hottest teen club in the Chicagoland area. Within 3 months the club's attendance had more than doubled and Julian was well on his way.
Julian was featured as a weekly guest DJ on one of Chicago's legendary radio stations. With the popularity of his guest appearances, he secured a residency at a rival station where his mixes were featured during the afternoon rush hour rating period. While ferociously building his brand name on air, Julian entered a nationwide Battle of The DJs, competing to become the next 'elite' member of the infamous "Hot Mix 5". Facing thousands of entrants, four sectional competitions, and a final battle, Julian finished victoriously. He reigned supreme and became the most talked about DJ in Chicago. Using the radiowaves as his platform, Julian became a strong proponent of a musical sound that would inevitably be called House Music. As an early pioneer of House Music, little did Julian know the impact he would have on the world of dance music forever!
Julian began producing his own music and re-mixing records for such artists as Queen Latifah, Pet Shop Boys, TKA, Fast Eddie, Tyree, and Kool Rock Steady among others. With over 100 productions to his name and the ability to move crowds all over the world, Julian had become a household name in Chicago.
In 1989 Chicago's B96 WBBM FM, a top forty radio station, approached Julian. The station's management knew the impactful ratings that his show garnered at the other stations and they wanted to bring that street power to B96. Thus, the B96 Street Mix was born and Julian was the proud father. Julian's mix show was so rapidly successful, that within the first three months, the ratings in his time slot more than doubled. B96 increased his airtime accordingly, quickly realizing the potential of their newly acquired asset.
In 1994 Julian created a radio show that would represent the music evolution occurring on the streets and in the night clubs of Chicago. The show was called "The B96 Street Flava". Airing prime time each Sunday, "Street Flava" was an immediate hit. As was consistent with his prior accolades, the success of "Street Flava" prompted B96 management to wisely offer Julian the overnight air shift at B96, and he accepted. Four months later Julian moved to a prime slot becoming the host of B96's night show. Teaming with Tim "Spinnin" Schommer, Julian enjoyed the success of hosting the most listened to night show in Chicago for eight straight years.
Julian "Jumpin" Perez continues to be at the forefront of mix show radio and has earned a reputation of being one of the most well-known and respected Mixmasters in the history of Chicago radio. He currently holds the position of Mix Show Director. You can catch Julian mixing live at clubs all across the Midwest. And of course, you can hear his mixes on B96, Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm to 5 am.
With a reputation that precedes him, Julian has surely effected the music industry in a manner that will not soon be forgotten.

Guest DJ: Foremost Poets (The Johnny Dangerous Zone)
FOREMOST POETS aka Funk-Master "jOHNNYDANGEROUs" has been reshaping Dance, Funk and Hip-Hop into poetic motion through his ethereal acoustic interpretations and blends of future funk with the spoken word. The 1990s introduced the hypnotic karma of jOHNNYDANGEROUs was released and the hit single "Reasons To Be Dismal" thrusted his sound into our dimension.
The Foremost Poets name first originated in 1990 on the independent label called Nu Groove. A few years later, Johnny dropped "Problem 13 (Beat That Bitch With A Bat" in 1993 and orbited into the Dance Music Hall of Fame. Since then, the name carries great respect in the underground House world throughout Europe and U.S. Dance scene.
When Johnny's striking voice appeared on his release "Moonraker", reciting rhythmical verse, he set a new standard for DJs around the world.
His legendary accapella has become the rave, sending crowds into a hypnotic frenzy as soon as the needle drops onto the late 90s hits "Please Do Not Be Alarmed", "Spy-Chiatrist" & "Facing The Impossible" - all of which has earned him notoriety in Club circles around the world.
Johnny has gone on to display his eclectic production skills in the R&B, and Hip-Hop arenas. Traveling the path of many award winning musicians, Johnny continued pursuing dance projects, while collaborating with a wide variety of artists, producers and
remixes including Redman, Govna, Craig Mack, SWV, Total, Missy Elliot, Common, Erikah Badu and Kenny Bobien throughout the 90s.
Today, the "FUNKMASTER" continues to innovate while currently producing artists in the U.S. Yet, while his production is in demand among upcoming artists, he lends himself when called upon by veteran counterparts such as George Benson, Ricky Peterson, Daryl Pearson and Lauryn Hill. But what lies ahead is much more than the industry is ready for.
Although the journey has been long, the foundation is deeply rooted. Johnny's destiny is interjecting his brand of underground creativity into the veins of conventional music. "It's long overdue that we expand our experimentationz of the underground to the mainstream ear", Johnny says. Where we're going now will remain unknown and just when the sound is compromised, as innovators, we reinvent ourselves time and time again.
Johnny's sound has been described as a futuristic blend of Dance, Funk and Hip-Hop. Having spun records, produced, written and arranged for nearly 20 years, he possesses the experience, ingenuity and foresight to change the sound of music in the new millennium.
THE FUTURE IS NOW.
I'll be showcasing different mixes every week or so. Bringing you the best music with the best mixing so listen and enjoy. 99% of this music is available for purchase online. Timmy RichardsonAKA TOT, Bronx, New York native likes to say he started his deejaying around the age of three. That would be when he got his first record player. He became obsessed with records. As he got older he became obsessed with radio. He grew up listening to all the major NYC stations at the time. His all-time favorite was Frankie Crocker everyday on WBLS. This all led to his becoming a dj as well as an avid record collector.
He would go on to become one of the underground scene's well known djs. He became a partner with Greg Daye of Wild Pitch, the moving underground parties of the late 80s- early 90s. A few years later he realized his dream of playing abroad when he travelled to Japan for a 3-city tour. He has also played in Brussells, Belgium.
In 2006 he decided to start a record label called TOT PRESENTS. TOT is an acronym for "The Other Timmy". People very often confuse him with the great dj Timmy Regisford. The label has a few releases out now produced by Timmy himself, as well as others. You can find them on various digital download sites.Timmy also specializes in mash-ups. Seeing that they were rarely done in the underground scene, he has done about 15 in the last 2 years, one of which actually got signed.
You can also hear Timmy live on the Internet every Tuesday night from 10pm-12mid EST and Saturday mornings from 7am-10am EST on www.cyberjamz.com. Timmy was one of the first djs on Cyberjamz in 2003 with the owner Sammy Rock. He has watched it grow into the # 1 underground Internet radio station.
Timmy also helps to run his favorite website www.deephousepage.com. Here is where you can hear tons of mixes from djs from all over the world and classic radio mixes, as well as engage in dialogue about music and the scene.
